Really like the idea. This would also pave the pay for a rail connection to NE Pennsylvania, which already has tens of thousands daily commuters into NYC. Too bad we're broke.

I agree that government dollars should be invested directly into people, not banks. Government dollars should be invested into innovative projects that are extremely likely to affect benefits due to these projects' sheer common sense rather than invested in sustaining a system which has already proven to be disastrous. Enough said.

Transportation accounts for 20% of energy consumption in the US. Is there a way to better mass transit?

Thank you all for posting comments! I agree, the problem is that the government is given free checks, and there is no accountability once the congress delegates large monies to its agencies. What happens when something enters the Department of Defense, or any other department. These are the questions nobody is looking at! Furthermore, the management system within these organizations cannot be examined. So, on one hand we have a "opem" govenrment where accountability is paramount, and on thre other hand the departments are completly secretive with absolutly no accountability. It is in these departments all our money is being spent, and the part of the govenrment no media or private organization tries to inveistigate. This is the core of the problem with military spending as well.

what we need is fiscal accountability. few are asking these questions, much less getting answers.
what we need is an arm of government, made up of volunteers with no pay. This new arm will seek out wasted tax dollars and publish their findings for their gain. Think of it as a paparazzi for politicians with a license to ask hard questions and get real answers.
